Cypher Card Benefits and Rewards

Cypher card does not offer cashback rewards or any other incentives for using the card. They do plan to launch a cashback program in ~Q3 of 2024.

Cypher Card is a Prepaid Card

  • Debit Card
  • Credit Card
  • Prepaid Card
  • No Bank Account Offered

Cypher Card is very much like a traditional prepaid card that carries its own balance, and you'll need to top it up before use. It should be noted that Cypher HQ doesn't offer a bank account with this card (while some crypto cards do), which means you won't be able to receive third-party payments, like fiat withdrawals from exchanges, for example.

It Comes in Both Physical and Virtual Forms

You can get Cypher Card in either a physical or virtual version. The virtual card is instantly available online after completing KYC Identity Verification. Applying for and activating a physical card will replace the virtual one.

Wondering about the perks of each card type? Here are some highlights:

Physical Card
Virtual Card
ATM WithdrawalsNo ATM Withdrawals
Required for Car Rentals, HotelsNo Tangible Asset
Useful When Phone Dies, or no WifiNo Apple Pay, Online Use Only
Backup Payment MethodInstant Availability
Cost to Order:
50 USD
Cost to Order:
0 USD

Get the Physical Card:Since Cypher Card doesn't support Apple Pay, the virtual card is only good for online shopping and subscriptions like Netflix. It is a much better choice to get the physical card, so you could use the card both online and in real life.

Crypto-to-USD Conversion Cost with Cypher Card

Cypher Card Requires Pre-Load

Before you can use your Cypher Card, you will need to top-up your account. This means you will have to convert your crypto in advance, exchanging it to USD and moving it to the card account, to make it available for spending.

Low Cost:Compared to the average ~1.8% crypto-to-fiat cost of other cards, converting crypto with Cypher Card is much more cost-effective (~0.5% + Gas Fees). This means that you will get more USD for your crypto when using this card.

From all crypto cards we reviewed, WhiteBIT Card, Holyheld Card and Crypto.com Card offer the cheapest crypto-to-fiat conversions (~0.28%, ~0.5% and ~0.75% respectively), while converting crypto with OWNR Card will cost you the most, ~4.64%.

How Does Cypher Card Compare to Other Crypto Cards?

Cypher Card ranks #18 out of 47 amongst all the crypto cards we have reviewed so far. This card is a solid choice among the many crypto cards available, offering competitive features and benefits.

In addition, Cypher Card ranks #4 out of 10 amongst Non-Custodial Crypto Cards.

  • Available for residents of United States.

Weakest Features Against Competitors

Compared to its 46 competitors, here are the shortcomings of Cypher Card:

  • Apple Pay isn't enabled (while 60% of competing crypto cards have it).
  • Doesn't offer any cashback (while other cards give an average of 4%).
  • Daily spend is capped at 4,000 USD (while other cards offer 13,000 USD daily spend limit on average).
  • Less-known company with a 3/10 company strength score (the average for all competing cards is 6/10).
  • Requires preconversion of crypto to load the card (while 40% of competitors auto-convert on every purchase).
  • Doesn't offer any free ATM withdrawals (in contrast to 50% of crypto cards which offer an average of 200 USD free withdrawal allowance per month).
  • Cypher Card vs. Gnosis Card vs. Holyheld Card

If you plan to use your card for daily purchases, then daily spending limit is an important consideration for you. Holyheld Card offers the highest daily spending limit of 10,000 EUR. You will get lower daily limits with Cypher Card and Gnosis Card.

Cashback rewards are a great way to earn back some of the money you spend on your card and is an important consideration as well. Out of the three, Holyheld Card offers the best cashback rewards of up to 1%. With Cypher Card and Gnosis Card, you will have no cashback rewards at all.

To make a good choice, look through all features, as it is an individual choice. If you will mostly do online transactions with this card, then Apple Pay availability may not be a very important feature for you. If you travel a lot, foreign exchange rate will matter. And so on.
