List of 17 Crypto Cards for Europeans

Most crypto cards available in Europe and the UK are debit cards, which are linked to a cryptocurrency account and can be used anywhere Visa or Mastercard is accepted.

Every card is denominated in a single Fiat currency (like EUR or GBP).

Your card provider either converts the required amount of your crypto into Fiat at the time of purchase, or you may need to top-up your card in advance.

You can have multiple crypto balances on your card account. Most companies have a predefined priority by which they determine which crypto to sell first, or they allow you to fund your card manually by selecting which crypto to use.

If you are using the card in a country where the currency is not EUR or GBP, you will have to pay Foreign Exchange Fees (around 1-3%), on top of crypto-to-fiat conversion fees (0.5%-1.5%). Some cards have lower fees than others. See our full cards list here.

Most lucky countries are Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden – since they have the most selection of Crypto Debit Cards available to them.

Take a look at the list below to select the best option for you.

Do Crypto Cards Have Any Hidden Fees?

Some fees are implied, and not mentioned anywhere. For example, an additional Foreign Exchange Fee charged by Visa or Mastercard.

Visa and Mastercard charge a 1% Foreign Exchange Fee, in addition to your card provider’s FX fee. Some cards, like Wirex Card, do not charge Foreign Exchange Fees. But Mastercard or Visa will still charge you 1% on every foreign transaction.

Another ‘hidden’ / unexpected fee, could be a card inactivity fee, or a monthly maintenance fee charged on a low balance. Crypto.com Card and Cryptopay Card have a 5 EUR inactivity fee, for example. These fees are usually disclosed in the Cardholder Agreement. So before you click the SignUp button, make sure to skim through the list of fees to make sure there aren’t any gotchas.

Workaround to Use Apple Pay Even if Card Doesn’t Offer it

If your card hasn’t integrated with Apple Pay yet, you can use a nice workaround, via the Curve app. It is a very popular app, where you can add all your credit and debit cards, and then use a single unified card, Curve Card, to do all your spending. Curve Card is enabled for Apple Pay, so you can add your Bybit Card or Wirex Card to Curve first and then add Curve Card to Apple Pay. No additional fees for using it this way within the EU. Voila.

What’s the Difference Between a Crypto Debit Card and a Crypto Credit Card?

With a crypto debit card, you need to convert your crypto to Fiat either by preloading the card in advance or it gets auto-converted for you at the time of purchase when using the card.

With a crypto credit card, you do not actually sell or convert your crypto – instead, your crypto assets are used as collateral. That means you can spend Fiat currency on your credit card as you would on a normal credit card, up to the crypto value of your assets.

Any Gotchas?

There is one other important fee to consider before you make your final choice.

If you plan to buy crypto on the same platform that offers you a crypto card, you should be aware of the trading fee % and the spread %, since those can vary significantly between the exchanges.

I am now confused, my card provider is both a wallet and an exchange. Which fees will I pay?

Crypto.com has two mobile apps, one is called Crypto.com (that’s the wallet) and the other is called Crypto.com Exchange. The same is the case with Coinbase, the mobile app Coinbase is a wallet, and the app Coinbase Pro is the exchange. This is a typical case with the other providers.

If the platform you chose offers both a wallet and an exchange, then you will be seeing much higher trading fees on their wallet counterpart.

The lesson here is for you to not forget to first do your trading on the exchange side, and only after that transfer over the crypto to the wallet and load the crypto card. You will be able to transfer your crypto from exchange to wallet within the same provider without additional transaction fees, so that’s a nice plus.

Our Recommendation to Make Your Choice Easier

Here are our Top 3 crypto card picks:

  1. Nexo Card is the absolute winner, just because it is a credit card, and the rest of the cards on the above list are debit cards. This means you can build your credit, you never need to sell your crypto (it is only used as collateral), and Nexo is very generous with card limits and rewards. A great card overall.
  2. In terms of fees, company strength, ease of use, and card rewards, the winner is Crypto.com Card. It has many nice upgrade options to a better card tier, which you can do with time. The best part is, it has really low trading fees on Crypto.com Exchange.
  3. Bybit Card is a fantastic option as well, with low fees on the card, but it doesn’t offer Apple Pay yet, so you’ll have to use the Curve app as a workaround (described above).

Go with the exchange that you enjoy using the most since it will be the most convenient for you.
