COCA Card: a crypto card with a generous €30,000 daily limit

COCA Card: a crypto card with a generous €30,000 daily limit

COCA Card is issued by Wirex

Wirex is the issuer behind the COCA Card, but this is a special integration. Normally, Wirex offers a custodial card — they hold your crypto for you (read our Wirex Card review). But through COCA Wallet, the card works in a non-custodial way, meaning your crypto stays in your own wallet, not theirs.

When you receive your physical COCA Card, you will see that it has Wirex branding on it, and it doesn’t have COCA logo on it.

COCA Card Benefits and Rewards

COCA card does not offer cashback rewards or any additional incentives for using the card.

COCA Card is a Prepaid Card

  • Debit Card
  • Credit Card
  • Prepaid Card
  • No Bank Account Offered

COCA Card is very much like a traditional prepaid card that carries its own balance, and you'll need to top it up before use.

It should be noted that Coca Wallet doesn't offer a bank account with this card (while some crypto cards do), which means you won't be able to receive third-party payments, like fiat withdrawals from exchanges, for example.

It's Issued Solely in Virtual Form, Lacking a Physical Version

COCA Card is available solely in virtual format, unlike 30% of crypto cards offering both physical and virtual versions. This means you cannot use it for ATM withdrawals, or at places like car rental companies or hotels that require a physical card for security deposit and identity verification. The virtual card will be issued to you instantly after you complete the KYC Identity Verification.

Wondering about the pros and cons of virtual-only format? Here are some highlights:

No Physical Card
Virtual Card
No ATM WithdrawalsInstantly Available, No Waiting for Mail
No Card when Hotels or Car Rentals Require itIdeal for Online Purchases
No Card When Phone Dies or no InternetEnvironmentally Friendly
No Feel-Good Backup Payment MethodNo Tangible Item to Misplace

Not so Great:Since COCA Card doesn't support Apple Pay and doesn't have a physical card version, you will only be able to use this card for online purchases.

Crypto-to-EUR Conversion Cost with COCA Card

COCA Card Requires Pre-Load

Before you can use your COCA Card, you will need to top-up your account. This means you will have to convert your crypto in advance, exchanging it to EUR and moving it to the card account, to make it available for spending.

Low Cost:Compared to the average ~1.7% crypto-to-fiat cost of other cards, converting crypto with COCA Card is much more cost-effective (~0.5% + Gas Fees). This means that you will get more EUR for your crypto when using this card.

From all crypto cards we reviewed, KAST Card, WhiteBIT Card and Kolo Card offer the cheapest crypto-to-fiat conversions (~0%, ~0.28% and ~0.32% respectively), while converting crypto with OWNR Card will cost you the most, ~4.64%.

How Does COCA Card Compare to Other Crypto Cards?

COCA Card ranks #55 out of 63 amongst all the crypto cards we have reviewed so far. This means it's one of the bottom 20%. But don't rush to judge, our rating is based on company strength, fee structure and customer service - if this card supports your country while others don't, or you use their other services, this card may still be a good choice for you.

In addition, COCA Card ranks #14 out of 15 amongst Non-Custodial Crypto Cards.

Weakest Features Against Competitors

Compared to its 42 competitors, here are the shortcomings of COCA Card:

  • Apple Pay isn't enabled (while 70% of competing crypto cards have it).
  • Doesn't offer any cashback (while other cards give an average of 4%).
  • COCA Card vs. Onboard Card vs. Gnosis Card

If you plan to use your card for daily purchases, then daily spending limit is an important consideration for you. COCA Card offers the highest daily spending limit of 30,000 EUR. You will get lower daily limits with Onboard Card and Gnosis Card.

Cashback rewards are a great way to earn back some of the money you spend on your card and is an important consideration as well. Out of the three, Gnosis Card offers the best cashback rewards of up to 5%. With COCA Card and Onboard Card, you will have no cashback rewards at all.

To make a good choice, look through all features, as it is an individual choice. If you will mostly do online transactions with this card, then Apple Pay availability may not be a very important feature for you. If you travel a lot, foreign exchange rate will matter. And so on.
