Kinesis Card Benefits and Rewards – for Canada

If you choose to set up KAU (Kinesis Gold) and KAG (Kinesis Silver) as your preferred currencies to be spent when using the card, you will qualify for Velocity Yield rewards.

Velocity Yield is paid monthly into the user’s Kinesis wallet and is calculated as a percentage of the transaction fees generated by the Kinesis Monetary System. Kinesis gives back a 57.5% share of all transaction fees to its users, proportionately distributed and paid monthly in KAG and KAU.

With Kinesis Card, you can set up up to 5 currencies (in the order of preference), to be spent when using the card. That is, you don’t need to top up your card, and funds will be directly converted from your chosen cryptocurrency in your Kinesis account to CAD at the moment of purchase. To qualify for rewards, you will need to set up KAG and KAU as your primary currencies for the card.

The more you use the Kinesis Card (while automatically converting your KAG and KAU to CAD), the more Velocity Yield you can earn.

If you choose to spend any other cryptocurrencies with Kinesis Card, you will not qualify for Velocity Yield.

p.s. Velocity Yield is the only reward that this card has. There is no traditional cashback program that Kinesis offers at the moment. Kinesis used to have a cashback voucher program, but they discontinued it on July 14, 2023.

Kinesis Card is a Debit Card that Converts Your Crypto on Demand

Kinesis Card offers instant conversion to fiat at the time of purchase. This allows you to hold your crypto and exchange to real-life currency only when you need to. No need to pre-convert your cryptocurrencies or preload the card.

It's Issued Solely in Virtual Form, Lacking a Physical Version

Kinesis Card is available solely in virtual format, unlike 50% of crypto cards offering both physical and virtual versions. This means you cannot use it for ATM withdrawals, or at places like car rental companies or hotels that require a physical card for security deposit and identity verification. The virtual card will be issued to you instantly after you complete the KYC Identity Verification.

Wondering about the pros and cons of virtual-only format? Here are some highlights:

No Physical Card
Virtual Card
No ATM WithdrawalsInstantly Available, No Waiting for Mail
No Card when Hotels or Car Rentals Require itIdeal for Online Purchases
No Card When Phone Dies or no InternetEnvironmentally Friendly
No Feel-Good Backup Payment MethodNo Tangible Item to Misplace

Not so Great:Since Kinesis Card doesn't support Apple Pay and doesn't have a physical card version, you will only be able to use this card for online purchases.

If you plan to use your card for daily purchases, then daily spending limit is an important consideration for you. Card offers the highest daily spending limit of 35,000 CAD. You will get lower daily limits with Kinesis Card and Wealthsimple Card.

Cashback rewards are a great way to earn back some of the money you spend on your card and is an important consideration as well. Out of the three, Card offers the best cashback rewards of up to 5%. The cashback rewards for Wealthsimple Card are not as high. With Kinesis Card, you will have no cashback rewards at all.

To make a good choice, look through all features, as it is an individual choice. If you will mostly do online transactions with this card, then Apple Pay availability may not be a very important feature for you. If you travel a lot, foreign exchange rate will matter. And so on.
